“But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:5 (NKJV)

We have now attended two state fellowships where the theme was “fulfill your ministry”. It is easy to see how we can fulfill our ministry once we are on the field, strengthening churches through active service in the local body while working on the building itself. But hearing the same theme twice on deputation has challenged us. What ministry are we to fulfill right now? Our answer is this: to strengthen and build up churches as God allows. The fellowship messages helped us reflect on our pre-field ministry. Looking back, we can see God at work. He is using us–all of us, right here and now–to build and strengthen His church. There are many examples we can share, but a recent one stands out. Last weekend the kids ministered in music, Brian preached and we didn’t share much about our ministry. That evening in a home Bible Study an older lady testified that the morning sermon convicted her to start reading her Bible every day. Testimonies like that that are a great encouragement and help us know that we are fulfilling the ministry God has given us right now.

During the month of September, we were able to take a family vacation in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Josiah Genung, one of the builder’s sons, joined us on our adventure. He was a big help on portages and our kids had a lot of fun with him. It was nice to slow down and get away from the distractions of everyday life. The week was cold, but God was good and gave us many fun memories. Afterward, the kids went to Grandpa and Grandma’s house and we toured the North Shore of Lake Superior. We attended the Minnesota State Fellowship and appreciated the opportunity to spend time with pastors from across the state. Our hope is to schedule meetings in Minnesota next year. This month we ministered at Heritage Baptist Church in Duluth, MN, Lakeland Baptist Church in Gilbert, MN, and Norwoodville Baptist Church in Des Moines, IA. Because Brian wasn’t able to take a group of men to the Cantonment Florida build site, we spent the last Sunday of September visiting a supporting church as well as another church we presented at earlier this year. Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and for being involved in our lives.

Fulfilling the great commission together,
