“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Psalm 119:105; John 8:12 (NKJV)
God continues to prepare us for the work He has called us to do. This month, Brenda was taken out of her comfort zone and challenged to share a devotional for the ladies Christmas party. It was the first time she’s done that. God directed her to the theme of light and how it is used to help direct our paths, just as the light of the star directed the wise men to baby Jesus. As Brenda prepared her message, God gave us some beautiful examples of light: the sun setting over the snow-covered ground and houses decorated with Christmas lights. We thank God for His light!
At our house we have a tradition of going to a tree farm to find and cut down our Christmas tree. We usually spend a significant amount of time wandering around looking for the “perfect” one. Once we find it, the kids help cut it down and carry it to the van. This year the weather cooperated and we had a beautiful day to go Christmas tree hunting.
It was a musical month for our kids. They were involved in our church’s Christmas pro- gram and their homeschool group’s Christmas concert. Later in the month their piano teacher held a piano recital and they did very well. It was a fun month listening to the kids practice their songs for each of these events. Another family tradition is the reading of the Christmas story from the Bible before we open presents. It has been fun watching each of the kids begin to participate in this as they have learned to read. This year the three oldest all read different parts of the story and Rebekah quoted the verse she memorized for the Christmas program. Thank you for the Christmas gifts and cards! We enjoyed reading them and we were encouraged by the many people who mentioned they were praying for us and our ministry.
